Digital Learning Initiative – A new way to take School of Christian Studies Classes!

Starting with the first class of 2018: the Old Testament I (B-01) six-week class, the School of Christian Studies will be offering a third option for taking classes: the School of Christian Studies Digital Learning Initiative.

The Digital Learning Initiative is a training program intended to provide quality instruction to pastors, pastors-in-training, church leaders and others by digitizing the three-year Pastoral Ministry program of the School of Christian Studies and making it available to persons who otherwise could not receive training because of scheduling issues or lack of broadband internet.

  • First, class lectures, handouts and other content will be digitized and delivered to students in electronic format, or upon special request, on a USB drive or SD card.  The content of the digital classes will include videos of lectures conducted by experienced and skilled instructors, current handouts and reading material, usually one book per class, but sometimes more.  Students interact with the materials by writing papers, preparing lessons or sermons, and will interact with each other by participating in digital discussion forums.
  • Second, students will participate in a mentor relationship (at a later date) with an experienced and trained pastor in their area who will provide insight and additional discussion opportunities.

The class schedule will follow the regular School of Christian Studies three-year cycle of courses, 24 classes total with eight taking place each year, but Digital Learning Initiative classes may start a short time after the in person classes have begun.

As with regular School of Christian Studies’ classes, once the class registration (with appropriate fee enclosed) is received in the office for the Digital Learning Initiative option, the materials purchased will be sent to the student.  Textbooks will be mailed, but the syllabus and other instructions for the class will be e-mailed to you, so don’t forget to list your e-mail address on the registration form!

We will continue to offer, live in person classes and live streaming classes.  As each class is offered during the year, you are free to choose any of these three formats.  Just make sure to list which you will be using on the registration form.  If you are attending class in person, please list the location of where you are attending; if you are attending the live class online, please check the “Yes” box next to the “Using online location” selection; and if you would like to try the new Digital Learning Initiative option (DLI), please check the “Yes” box next to “Using DLI.”  Please note: the live streaming option may not be available for all one-day classes.

We pray this will provide a great way for students who have been prevented in the past, either by busy schedules or internet issues, to receive a high quality, Biblical education from home.
