Teams continue to work in the flooded areas doing cleanup and reconstruction. However, the numbers of teams going has decreased with the start of school and time lapse since the event. More teams are needed – especially those with building skills.
John Vannoy, Disaster Relief Coordinator for the West Virginia American Baptist Men, is meeting with Joe Seese to discuss the possibility of the West Virginia American Baptist Men taking on the rebuilding of a parsonage that had to be completely gutted after the flood. It is very likely the men will take on this project to help get the pastor, who had not yet moved to Clendenin, a suitable dwelling place. Watch for more on this project in the weeks ahead.
Roger Adams has secured a warehouse in Rainelle to collect and distribute good furniture to those who are getting back into their homes. Working with area churches, the county long-term recovery team is assisting families and businesses in the much needed rebuilding of the community. Teams have worked to help several local businesses, and as much as possible, funds are being spent locally to promote the local economy.
As part of the furniture distributions, a grant was given from our flood relief fund to buy, at a deep discount, from Big Sandy Superstore’s trailer load 100 sets of new mattresses. The bedding sets will be given to families as they resettle into their homes.
Richwood First Baptist Church (Hopewell) used the flood relief funds we granted to purchase air conditioners to help two families move of our emergency shelters and back into their homes.
Much is being done! But there is much more to do! Thank you for your generosity and volunteer efforts that are truly making a difference in the lives of those impacted by the June floods.
