Bowen Charitable Trust Scholarship

Through the generosity and foresight of the late Frank and Helen Bowen, scholarship opportunities are available for students preparing for vocational ministry.

The primary mission of the Bowen Charitable Trust is to help people who want to dedicate their lives to Christian service in vocational ministry, which includes the following:  Pastors, Associate/Assistant Pastors, Ministers of Christian Education, Music, Worship, Youth, Pastoral Care, Family Life, as well as Christian counselors, Chaplains and others qualified as determined by the Committee on Distributions.  Persons in bi-vocational ministry also qualify.

Scholarship grants may not exceed the total cost (tuition, housing, meals, books and fees for a student living on campus in campus housing) and is exclusive of other grants and scholarships provided to the student (Pell grants, PROMISE scholarships, institutional grants, etc.).  Scholarships are granted for the current semester or term.  Recipients may reapply each year up to the maximum number of years typical for their course of study.

Preference in granting scholarships shall be to students who are members of churches related to the West Virginia Baptist Convention and to those attending one of the following schools:  Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, WV and Eastern University or Palmer Theological Seminary at Easter University, Philadelphia, PA (including the WV Extension located at the WV Baptist Conference Center near Ripley).  Scholarships may be granted for both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Applications for scholarship funds must be submitted to Bowen Charitable Trust, PO Box 346, Parkersburg, WV  26102-0346 at least 90 days prior to the beginning of the semester or term for which the student is applying.  Re-applications and applications for continuing education grants must be submitted 60 prior to the semester or term, or continuing education event.
